Dr Karl-Erik Tillmann

Dr Karl-Erik Tillmann is an ophthalmologist with an international background and extensive experience in various laser procedures. Throughout his career, he has worked with laser treatments for retinal diseases and glaucoma, as well as vision correction procedures, focusing in recent years on refractive surgery.

Born in Tartu, Dr Tillmann spent part of his youth in England and completed his secondary education at an international school in Thailand. This diverse upbringing has given him a broad worldview and strong communication skills in multicultural environments. He graduated from the University of Tartu’s Faculty of Medicine and completed his ophthalmology residency at Tartu University Hospital. His professional experience includes working in both Finland and Estonia, with practice in Tartu, Tallinn, and Võru.

Dr Tillmann utilizes state-of-the-art vision correction methods, including 3Flow and SmartSurfACE technologies, which provide patients with a comfortable procedure and a fast recovery. As a technology enthusiast, he closely follows the development of artificial intelligence (AI) applications in medicine, recognizing their great potential in diagnostics and personalized treatment.

He regularly participates in international conferences and training sessions to stay up to date with the latest advancements in the field. Dr Tillmann has been a member of the Estonian Ophthalmological Society since 2019 and is also part of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS), reflecting his dedication to continuous professional development and innovation.

Outside of medicine, Dr Tillmann is passionate about sports and has been practicing karate for many years. This discipline has taught him focus and perseverance—values that he also applies in his daily work.
