See clearly, live freely

KSA Assistant Polina on Her Journey to a Life Without Glasses

Every pair of eyes is unique and every person deserves an approach that takes their needs and expectations into account.

Polina works at KSA Silmakeskus as an optometrists’ assistant, helping to conduct vision examinations and assisting clients before their laser procedures. What she values most in her work is the opportunity to communicate with people and see their joy when the results meet their expectations. She has also undergone laser vision correction herself.

In her free time, Polina enjoys swimming, walking in nature, and doing ceramics. A large part of her life is also devoted to dog training and preparing them for shows — an activity that requires dedication, patience, and precision.

Years with Glasses

Polina got her first glasses at the age of 15. She used contact lenses rarely — mostly for sports or on special occasions. What bothered her most about glasses was how quickly the same frame became boring:
“When you wear the same glasses every day, the frame gets tiresome, and you constantly want to buy new ones — but that’s quite expensive.”
Daily use of contact lenses didn’t suit her either:
“Contact lenses made my eyes dry, and in the mornings I spent a lot of time trying to get them in properly.”

One of the most memorable incidents during her time wearing glasses happened on a trip:
“A few years ago, I went on holiday with a friend and her child. I carelessly left my glasses on a shelf, and the child broke them in half. I didn’t have spare glasses with me and hadn’t yet started using contact lenses. For the remaining five days of the trip, I couldn’t see people’s faces clearly and had to relive all the sightseeing moments later through photos.”

Since most employees at KSA have already undergone laser vision correction, Polina had no doubts about taking that step herself:
“When I got the chance, I didn’t think twice — I immediately booked a time for the procedure.”

Recovery — Smooth and Balanced

The recovery process went smoothly. Before the procedure, her near vision was good, but distant vision was poor; in the first days after, it was the opposite — distance was sharp, but close-up vision was blurry.
“It lasted for four days, and after that, I could see well both near and far,” Polina explains.
The days passed calmly: “I went for long walks and did household chores. The only difference was that I hardly used my phone or computer at all. This digital
detox actually did me a lot of good.”

An Experience Worth Sharing

The first days without glasses took some getting used to.
“Even after a few days without them, I still had the habit of adjusting them or taking them off before bed.”
What brings her the most joy now is the freedom at pools and water parks:
“Now, when I go swimming, I don’t need glasses anymore. I can dive and go to the sauna without worrying that my glasses will get in the way.”

For those who hesitate or fear the procedure, Polina encourages them to be brave:
“I know many people are afraid that laser surgery might be painful. My experience was completely painless — the procedure was so quick and simple that if I had to, I would do it again without any hesitation.”
