Meet Märt Tammearu – a 24-year-old professional volleyball player and member of the Estonian national team. Originally from the small village of Rabavere, he has represented clubs in Belgium, France, and Poland. For the past three years, he has been named Estonia’s best male volleyball player.
When the season is in full swing, most of his time is spent training and competing, but during his summer breaks in Estonia, he enjoys beach volleyball and disc golf. Sport is an inseparable part of his life. Recently, Märt decided to take a step toward better quality of life and underwent the KSA Flow laser procedure.
Glasses, lenses, and sports – a tough combination
Märt got his first pair of glasses six years ago, when his vision began to interfere both in school and on the court. Glasses and contact lenses quickly became a daily inconvenience—not only in professional sports, but also during his military service, where wearing lenses in the forest was prohibited.
“In the shooting range, you really want to see where the target is,” he says, explaining one of the main reasons he sought a solution.
In one training camp, he found himself in a particularly uncomfortable situation:
“After shooting practice, we had a lunch break. I put my glasses on the ground next to my bag to rest, and the next moment I accidentally sat on them—they broke instantly. Luckily, it was one of the last days of service,” Märt recalls.
Even on the volleyball court, unexpected moments happened. “During a national team friendly match warm-up, I got hit in the face with a ball and my lens flew out… the warm-up ended with me sprinting back to the hotel room to put in a new one before rushing back to the game,” he laughs.

Three-month break – the perfect timing
This year, Märt’s volleyball season ended early, giving him a unique opportunity: a three-month break before national team training resumed in mid-summer. That meant the perfect time for vision correction.
He learned about KSA Vision Clinic thanks to his teammate Robert Täht, who had already undergone the procedure and strongly recommended it. Märt didn’t hesitate:
“I didn’t overthink it. I booked an eye exam, and when I got the green light for the procedure, the decision was made.”
Recovery: faster than expected
Recovery turned out to be much easier than Märt imagined. The first four days were the hardest, with blurry vision, watery eyes, and a sensation of grit in the eyes. What helped most were his partner’s support, listening to podcasts, and spending time outdoors.
By the seventh day, when the protective lenses were removed, he returned to his normal routine—most importantly, back to training. Just a month later, his vision was fully restored.

Life after the procedure
“Now I live exactly the same way, but I see everything—and it still gives me that wow feeling,” says Märt.
The biggest change has been in volleyball. His eyes no longer tire easily, dryness isn’t an issue, and tracking the ball is much simpler.
He also highlights the freedom from constant decision-making: “My dream was to get rid of that daily choice—should I wear lenses and plan my whole day around them, or go without and sacrifice clear vision? Now that stress is gone.”
Spontaneous activities like beach volleyball or swimming also feel effortless and natural—no planning, no limitations.

Advice for those who hesitate
“If you dream of laser eye surgery, you should definitely do it—at KSA!” says Märt with confidence.
His earlier fears disappeared thanks to the warm, supportive atmosphere at KSA:
“The entire staff is incredibly friendly and helpful, both before and after the procedure. I even shared my next season’s plans during the surgery—which actually haven’t been made public yet. That’s how much trust you feel in their hands.”
He encourages others to do their research, ask questions, and talk to people who have had the procedure.
Märt adds one more personal detail that made the whole process even more perfect:
“I’ve never found sunglasses that suited me, but now I wear the pair I chose before the procedure every day—because they look amazing!”
“A huge thank you to KSA Vision Clinic,” he concludes.
