One trip to Tallinn, on the day of the procedure

All the groundwork is done in Tartu: the eye examination, the corneal measurements and the suitability assessment. The optometrist talks you through the results in full. The laser itself is at the KSA clinic in Tallinn, so the trip to Tallinn is only needed for the procedure itself. For follow-ups we agree on whichever site is easier for you. Read what the laser does.

Eye examinations are not a healthcare service and are carried out by optometrists. The laser procedure is a healthcare service and is performed by an ophthalmologist.

who sees you

Ophthalmologist or optometrist — what is the difference

The optometrist runs the examination

An optometrist measures your vision, your prescription and the state of the eye, and carries out the Audit examination. They do not diagnose or prescribe treatment. Most people see an optometrist first — and often that is enough.

The ophthalmologist diagnoses and treats

An ophthalmologist is a doctor. You need one when there is disease or a suspicion of it: eye pressure, glaucoma, cataract, inflammation, a retinal problem. No referral is needed.

One team, two sites

Tartu is not a separate business or a franchise. The same KSA team, the same examination protocols and the same categories of equipment as in Tallinn.

The ophthalmologist in Tartu: Dr Karl-Erik Tillmann

Dr Karl-Erik Tillmann sees patients in Tartu on selected days; the booking calendar shows when. Laser procedures are performed by Dr Tillmann and Dr Ants Haavel in the Tallinn operating suite.

What we examine with

An examination is not one measurement but several — that is how we tell whether your vision changed because of your prescription or because of something else.

Corneal topography

Measures the shape and thickness of the cornea. This is what shows whether a laser procedure suits your eye — and when it does not.

OCT

Optical coherence tomography shows the layers of the retina and the optic nerve. Glaucoma and macular changes appear here, often before anyone notices them.

Dry eye diagnostics

Assessment of the tear film and the condition of the eyelids, with a written summary.

Suitability is assessed here

Every pre-operative Flow3 measurement is taken in Tartu — corneal topography, thickness, eye pressure and the retina. Only the procedure itself happens in Tallinn. Read what the laser does.

Common questions

No. We do the examination and the suitability assessment in Tartu; the procedure itself takes place at the KSA clinic in Tallinn, where the laser is. For follow-up visits we agree whichever clinic is easier for you.

No. You can book an ophthalmologist appointment at KSA without a referral — book online or call +372 644 5060.

An eye examination is run by an optometrist: they measure your vision and the state of the eye, but do not diagnose. An ophthalmologist is a doctor — they diagnose, prescribe treatment and perform procedures.

All prices are on the price list, and the laser procedure can be paid for in instalments. Prices are the same in Tallinn and Tartu.

Yes. It means no queueing and enough time set aside for you. Book online or call +372 644 5060.

A full Audit examination takes about an hour. An ophthalmologist appointment is shorter.

If your pupils are dilated during the examination, your vision stays blurred for a few hours and light is uncomfortable. Do not plan to drive yourself that day.

The glasses or lenses you currently wear, and any earlier test results. If you wear contact lenses, leave them out for a few days beforehand — lenses change the shape of the cornea and that affects the measurement.

Yes. We check children's vision from the age of 2.5, either with an optometrist or together with an ophthalmologist.

KSA Vision Clinic has been working since 2005. We have carried out more than 300,000 eye examinations and over 55,000 laser procedures, and in 21 years there has not been a single case of corneal weakening — ectasia. We operate under healthcare activity licences L04236 and L07200, and the Flow3 procedure carries a guarantee of up to ten years.
